ANOTHER HISTORY OF THE WORLD

 Wednesday November 8 , to Monday  March 11, 2024

The Mucem offers a journey through world history from the 13th to the  21st  century, abandoning the Western perspective. The exhibition presents more than 150 works and objects from public and private collections

The travels and explorations of Arab, Asian or African merchants, pilgrims and scholars who “discovered” distant lands and produced new knowledge would disrupt the  traditional conceptions of the world. African cowrie shells like Chinese navigation maps forcefully remind us that globalization was multipolar, in Central Asia, in the Indian Ocean and well beyond. With the progressive decompartmentalization of the globe, Europeans themselves become the subjects of numerous and sometimes confusing representations

POPULAR?

 Until December 31, 2026

The exhibition of 1,200 objects and documents (from the Mucem's historical funds or acquired by the museum ) is designed to highlight the human character of the objects and testimonies An immersive digital mediation device evokes the idea of "popular culture" which irrigates this collections.“ The Mucem aims to place itself at the border of the social and the intimate . And its collection is its heart ,” recalls Pierre-Olivier Costa, its president, who wants to show all the “ emotional force ” of these countless funds.

WORLD MUSEUM CONNECTIONS

What is WMC?

The Mucem puts its network of partner museums in the spotlight of another long-term European project : RECULTURE PROJECT ⁄
Re-branding of Cultural Institutions in Western Balkans
Establishing a basis for improved visibility and modernized appearance of Western Balkans cultural institutions by supporting the inter-sectoral linking and cooperation between cultural and creative industries within the Western Balkans and EU Member States.
This newsletter will introduce you with three young designers of this program

YOUNG DESIGNER FROM NORTH MACEDONIA

STEFAN TANKOV

The general situation in the region is that many cultural institutions don’t see important value in having a well-thought-out visual identity. They focus on putting up decent programming and not much on building an audience,’ Stefan Tankov.

 YOUNG DESIGNER FROM SERBIA

 JULIJA RADOSAVLJEVIĆ

"This project encompassed every phase of redesign and in-dept research, which I believe is not the case in working with every cultural institution, " Julija Rdosavljević.

YOUNG DESIGNER FROM MONTENEGRO
SNEŽANA BULATOVIĆ

Thanks to this project, a turn has been made in their external communication, so now these contents are much more accessible to a younger audience than years ago, Snežana Bulatović.
