RETURN 

Experiences of returning in the Mediterranean area

From October 18th 2024, to March 16th 2025

 

The 'Return' exhibition takes an original look at mobility throughout the Mediterranean.This experience, is a chance to explore the transgenerational relationship with 'home' and the memories and representations associated with it.
  

WHAT'S NEW

IN THE RING  
Clowns, Pierrots, and acrobats
 
From December 4th 2024 to May 12th 2025

"In this fairytale and prosaic tale, the poor things of the fairground and the works of great artists combine with fantasy." With stage director Macha Makeïeff , this major exhibition on the art of the circus, invites the public to enter an imaginary stage for“a sensitive and whimsical story”  .

What is WMC?

In this newsletter , we will introduce you to two museums in the world with the same type of collections of the Mucem. Let us discover them.


 THE SHELBURNE MUSEUM (VERMONT USA)

The most popular exhibitions at Shelburne Museum are two hand-carved wood circus models. One of them, the Arnold Circus Parade was made between 1925 and 1955 and forms a parade more than 500 feet long including clowns, acrobats, animals, and circus wagons. Visit the museum to discover more pieces of the collection.


 THE CIRCUS MUSEUM
( University of Amsterdam)

 

The Allard Pierson (the Collections of the University of Amsterdam) manages an internationally unique circus collection, composed of a number of collections from private individuals who have focused on collecting circus heritage.

“Discover Provence” Visit the Bibémus quarries 
This year will be highlight of Cezanne in Provence and some of our activities will revolve around this topic.
In March we will organise a guided tour in the Bibemus Quarries, on the steps of Paul Cezanne

An opportunity to exchange  and learn about different cultures and traditions from people around Europe and Mediterranean.

In January we will discover a part of the Italian culture with Giovanna, and learn more about the Chinese traditions in February with Shirley.
